India is facing South Africa in the Super 12 stage and both the teams will be looking for a win in order to secure their spot in the semifinal. In the match, Indian captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to bat first with one change Deepak Hooda coming in for Agar Patel.
The moment the Indian skipper entered the field for the toss made a world record to his name. Now hitman Sharma holds the record of playing most matches in T20 World Cup history with 36 games at his side. He surpassed former Sri Lankan opener Tillakaratne Dilshan who had the record of 35 games before Rohit breaking it.
Till now Rohit Sharma and Bangladeshi skipper Shakib Al Hasan are the only players who haven’t missed a single T20 World edition since its inception in 2007. Rohit Sharma was part of Indian World Cup victory in 2007 under the leadership of MS Dhoni.
The veteran has played 36 games till now in which he has scored 904 runs with an average of 37.66. Highest score for Rohit Sharma in T20 World Cup history is 79*.
