Heavy Rain Predicted In T20 World Cup Final On Scheduled Date And Reserve Day, What If Both Days Will Be Washed?

The final clash of the ICC Men’s T20 Cup 2022 will be played between England and Pakistan at Melbourne Cricket Ground on 13th November. But the news coming from the Meteorology department of Australia is that there is 100% rainfall chance between 8mm to 20mm at MCG. “Very high (near 100%) chance of showers. The chances of a thunderstorm, possibly severe,” read the Bureau of Meteorology.

14th November is also scheduled as the reserve day for the final match but the prediction of the weather forecasts shows that it will be 95% chances of rainfall between 5mm to 10mm on Monday, as well. If the reserve day will be also washed out then the trophy will be shared between both teams.

As per the ICC rule, in knockout encounters, if the match will be affected by rain then DLS will be applicable, only when, both the teams would have played 10 overs each. Match officials will try their best to conduct the final match on the scheduled date, and if, not possible then it should be concluded till reserve day. If the game does not start on Sunday then it will resume as 20 overs per side game on Monday.

“If the reserve day is allocated, every effort will be made to complete the match on the scheduled day with any necessary reduction in overs taking place and only if the minimum number of overs necessary to constitute a match cannot be bowled on the scheduled day will the match be completed on the reserve day,” ICC playing conditions.

“If the match has started on the scheduled day and overs are subsequently reduced following an interruption, but no further play is possible, the match will resume on the reserve day at the point where the last ball was played” ICC rule on reserve day if the game begins on schedule day.
