‘He only decided where to hide on the field…’, Former Indian Cricketer Makes Bold Claim Against Rohit Sharma

Cricket analysts continue to make much of the Indian cricket team’s semi-final defeat from the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022. India lost to England unbelievably by 10 wickets after making it to the championship game’s semifinals. Rohit Sharma, the Indian team’s captain, struggled at the plate and received criticism for his leadership throughout the competition.

Sharma, who was selected to captain India in his debut World Cup, struggled to make an impact with the bat and had his decision-making abilities called into doubt. Atul Wassan, a former Indian cricketer, criticized Sharma harshly, claiming that he did not answer a single phone. During an interview with ABP news, Wassan said, “We could see two levels of cricketers. At least something should have happened. You can’t even find a fault. I feel that you can’t blame the captaincy. After all, it was the team management that was taking all decisions. Rohit Sharma did not take a single call. He only decided where to hide on the field.” Before the T20 World Cup in 2024, experts advise the selectors to hunt for a new T20I skipper.
Wassan continued by saying that keeping Sharma as the team’s T20I captain would not be beneficial for Indian cricket.

He added, “Yes, I feel so (that Rohit’s time as India’s T20 captain is over). You always plan between two World Cups and I don’t think Indian cricket will gain anything by retaining him as captain. We won’t get any return for such an investment. You have two options in front of you – Hardik Pandya and Rishabh Pant. I am still besides myself, can’t believe what happened. I felt as if India batted in Adelaide and England in Sharjah.”

  1. I think a player who played around 10 international matches should keep their mouth shut and not blame the players who played plenty of international matches.
