New Zealand Announces Squad For T20I and ODI Series Against India, 2 Veteran Left Out

New Zealand will be hosting team India for the white-ball series which will commence on 18th November at Wellington. For the same, New Zealand has announced the squad for the both ODI and T20I series.

Kiwis have announced a 13-member squad for the upcoming series and the cracking opener Martin Guptill has got no place in the squad. However, Kane Williamson will once again lead the team. Apart from Guptill, pacer Trent Boult has also been left out of the series.

The kiwis have opted for 23-year-old Finn Allen for the opener’s role. Boult did not continue his central contract with the New Zealand cricket board in order to spend more time with his family and this is the reason he was not considered for the India series.

Talking about the omission of Boult and Guptill coach Gary Stead said,”When Trent opted out of his NZC contract in August, we indicated that priority would be given to those players with either central or domestic contracts, and that’s been the case here.”

He further added, “We’re all aware of Trent’s world-class ability, but at this time – as we build towards more global events, we want to give opportunities and experiences to others.”

“The emergence and success of Finn at the top of the order in white-ball cricket means a guy of the class of Martin Guptill misses out – that’s just the nature of the high-performance sport.”

“With the 50-over World Cup less than a year away we’re keen to give Finn every opportunity to keep gaining ODI experience, especially against quality opposition such as India.”

“The message to both those players is that there’s a lot of international cricket ahead and the door is certainly not closed to them.”
