India beat Afghanistan in their last match of the Asia Cup 2022. India was already knocked out from the tournament but playing for prestige India dominated Afghanistan in every field and won the match by 101 runs.
The match became memorable as the world cricket fans witnessed the 71st century of the star Indian batter Virat Kohli. The century came nearly after 2.5 years and it gave a moment of joy for every Kohli fan who had been waiting for the century since November 2019.
Virat Kohli scored 122 runs in 61 balls with the help of 12 fours and 6 sixes. With this epic knock, Virat Kohli became the only player to score a hundred in the T20 and ODI format of the Asia Cup. Former Indian batter Gautam Gambhir also showered some words of praise for Kohli. Gambhir said that Virat Kohli succeeded in doing this as he had earned the trust of the team management and this was the reason he has been given constant chances.
Speaking after the match, Gambhir said, “I don’t think any younger player would have survived in international cricket had they not got a 100 in the last three years. This eventually had to happen and it has happened just at the right time. But let’s be fair, I don’t think anyone would have survived for this long.”
Before the match against Afghanistan, Kohli was struggling to reach the 3-digit mark. For this many former cricketers were criticizing the batter, not only this many were also not seeing him in the squad for the T20 World Cup.
Kohli also talked about this century and said that the break from cricket helped him a lot. He said that the break helped him to analyze the game and think about the approach for this game.
