‘Emotional’ Dhruv Jurel Reveals His Conversation With MS Dhoni After Being Picked For The England Tests

After being selected for the Test series against England, the young Indian wicket-keeper batter Dhruv Jurel expressed that he could not believe that he had got a call from the Indian team management and it was just like a dream for him. The batter plays for Rajasthan Royals in IPL and he has shown some phenomenal performance for RR and his domestic team for the last year.

Dhruv Jurel is one of the wicket-keepers picked for the five-match Test series against England which starts on January 25. Apart from Jurel, KL Rahul and KS Bharat are the other two options in the 16-member squad picked for the first two tests.

Dhruv Jurel reminisced about the moment when he discovered his inclusion in the India Test squad, expressing that it was a childhood dream come true to be a part of the senior national team.

Dhruv Jurel is the ex-vice-captain of the U19 World Cup team and joined the India A team for a tour of South Africa, participating in three four-day matches, including an intra-squad practice game against the Test team. During the intra-squad match, Jurel had the privilege of playing alongside renowned players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.

“I was literally shocked. Every kid who picks up a bat dreams of playing for India. After seeing my name in the squad, I felt I was living a dream. I was not able to understand where I was, I was wondering if it was for real,” Jurel told Jio Cinema.

“I think for a middle-class kid, it looks a bit difficult when you wonder ‘how will it happen?’ considering the competition in the country. It’s not a cheap game, we have to manage financially as well. So I walked down memory lane of how the journey has unfolded so far. I spoke to my mother, father, and my sister after the call-up. It was a very good and emotional moment” Jurel said.

Jurel also revealed his conversation which he did talking to the former Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni during his IPL 2023.

“I have been a big fan of MS Dhoni. Last year, I got a chance to talk to him. I was talking to him about his mindset. He told me ‘Just focus on the next ball and don’t think about anything else’. He told me most of the pressure comes from within. He told me to visualize and focus on my preparation. He told me to ‘watch the ball’. He told me that I had already done so much and that’s why I am here.

“He said ‘Don’t doubt yourself, just watch the ball and express yourself. Don’t focus on results, just focus on the process,” Jurel added.
