AB de Villiers Picks This Batting Number For Virat Kohli In T20I World Cup 2024

Before the three-match T20I series against Afghanistan, there was uncertainty about Virat Kohli’s return to the shortest format. However, the national selectors supported the 35-year-old cricketer and he scored 29 runs off 16 deliveries in the second T20I.

In the final match played at M Chinnaswamy stadium, he couldn’t open his tally. Meanwhile, the former South Africa cricketer anticipates the team management to continue supporting Virat leading up to the T20 World Cup.

De Villiers suggested that Virat Kohli should occupy the number three spot for India in T20Is. According to him, the former captain serves as the team’s anchor, bridging the gap between the top and middle order effectively. De Villiers emphasised that Virat has been a significant threat batting at number three and anticipates him to persist in that role.

While talking to his Youtube Channel, de Villiers said,”I have a different opinion. For the most part of my international career, Virat batting at No. 3 was the biggest threat for us when we played against India. I’ve always felt like he was the glue of the team in the middle order. No. 3 is not quite middle-order, it is top-order. But he is so good that he often combined with the middle-order, even down to tailenders. It’s just impossible to play against that.”

With Virat absent, Suryakumar Yadav assumed the number three position and excelled, securing the top rank among T20I batters globally. However, if Virat reclaims the number three spot, Yadav is expected to shift down the order to number four.

With Virat absent, Suryakumar Yadav had the number three position and he secured the top rank among T20I batters globally. However, if Virat reclaims the number three spot, Yadav is expected to shift down his batting order at number four.

With a new ball, facing the first few deliveries there, I just think that the chances of getting a good delivery up front are so much better. I’m worried about that position,” De Villiers said.
