Bangladesh has suffered a huge blow ahead of the two-match test series against Sri Lanka, as their veteran batter Mushfiqur Rahim has been ruled out of the entire series due to a fractured thumb.
The wicketkeeper-batsman suffered a thumb injury while collecting a delivery that was being bowled by pacer Taskin Ahmed. After leaving the batsman, Pathum Nissanka, the ball was hit immediately on the right thumb of the keeper, who was seen in a lot of discomfort.
Bangladesh team physio Islam Khan attended Mushfiqur Rahim, but the former skipper continued with his wicketkeeping duties during the match.
Later, in an official statement, it was revealed, “After the match, Mushfiqur underwent an X-ray examination in Dhaka, which revealed an avulsion fracture on the MIP joint of his right thumb. He is currently undergoing conservative management for his injury and is expected to be sidelined for around three to four weeks, consequently ruling him out of participation in the Test series against Sri Lanka.”
Rahim has been one of the most experienced players for Bangladesh in the red-ball format. The wicketkeeper has already played 88 test matches, scoring 5676 runs, which include 27 fifties and 10 hundreds.
