England’s attacking Bazball approach backfired on them miserably in the second test against the Indian team, as Rohit Sharma and his men defeated England by a huge margin of 106 runs.
Chasing a target of 399 runs England batters were on self destruction mode as most of the batters failed to convert their starts into substantial one. The over-attacking approach from the batters made the wickets to fall at regular intervals.
However, one of the greats of the England boycott slammed England’s captain Ben Stokes and coach Brendon McCullum, suggesting that there’s no glory in defeat.
In an article, Geoffrey Boycott wrote that bazball is great entertainment when it pays off, but in most cases, it will not give the desired result.
Boycott even gave the example of Joe Root, who, after scoring 16 runs, threw his wicket away in an attempt to take on Indian bowlers.
Boycott even slammed England’s think tank, saying that scoring more than four runs in an over is quite entertaining, but when a target of 400 is on board to chase someone from the batting unit, they need to score a big hundred. Boycott wrote that Bazball was the reason Joe Root lost his wicket trying to play ultra-aggressive shots from the very first ball.
Boycott even went on to say that T-20 cricket has gotten into England’s mind, which has made them think of scoring runs in every bowl that is bowled to them.

Although there are no such signs that England will change their approach in the upcoming matches of the series, Geoffrey Boycott is hoping that the batters will play in a bit more sensible manner.
Both the teams are set to take on each other in the third test match of the series starting on February 15 in Rajkot.
