“Ishan Kishan” a prominent face in the Indian set-up has been out of action for a long period. There are various speculations about his future in Indian cricket. However, after India’s victory over England in the second test match, India’s head coach, Rahul Dravid, spoke about Ishan’s absence from the Indian squad, stating that he is happy for Ishan’s return to the Indian set-up whenever he is ready.
Ishan Kishan made his test debut previously against the West Indies but wasn’t picked in the Indian test squad for the first two test matches against England after he had requested a personal break.
Ishan Kishan was also part of the T-20 set-up when Team India toured South Africa in December, but he did not play a single game. He was released from the squad for the two-test series against South Africa and hasn’t played either international or domestic cricket since then.
Team India’s head coach Rahul Dravid was asked about the situation following India’s 106-run series-leveling win in Visakhapatnam. He said, “There’s a way back for anyone and everyone. It’s not that we rule out anybody from anything. Rahul said that I just don’t want to go on laboring about the Ishan Kishan point. I’ve tried to explain it as best I can. The point was that you know, he requested a break. We were happy to give him the break”. On being further inquired about Ishan’s participation in domestic cricket, Rahul Dravid said, Whenever he’s ready, he needs to play some cricket and come back, and the choice is his. Rahul Dravid further stated We’re not forcing him to do anything, and we are in touch with him. It’s not that we’re not in touch.
We know what it is, but he hasn’t yet started playing, right? So, at the moment, it’s not something that we would consider because, you know, he’s maybe not ready. He decides when he wants to be ready, and we’ve got options, obviously, with Rishabh injured and stuff. So I’m sure the selectors will weigh all the options.”
In Kishan’s absence, India picked KS Bharat as their first-choice ‘keeper for the two Tests, with Dhruv Jurel as his replacement. The team management had already decided to use KL Rahul in that specialist role for three Tests, despite him having taken on the responsibility of wicketkeeping in South Africa.

While Bharat has proved to be a prominent force behind the wickets, his contributions in front are not favoring his cause. He has scored 41, 28, 17, and 6, with the last of those scores characterized by a false shot when India was looking to build a substantial lead.
However, it’s still not clear when Ishan Kishan will be available for selection. With the T-20 World Cup around the corner, Ishan Kishan needs to make him available for the Indian team’s selection. The Indian team’s squad for the remaining three test matches will be announced in a few days.
