2023 ODI World Cup: ‘It Is Not The Bed Of Roses’, Shahid Afridi Slams Babar Azam And Company For Pathetic Performance In The Tournament

Pakistan and Afghanistan faced each other in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 on October 23 where Pakistan lost the game by 8 wickets at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai. After this defeat, they faced some severe trolls by fans and cricket experts.

Pakistan batted first and posted a total of 282 for seven, thanks to Babar’s 74-run contribution. However, Afghanistan successfully chased down the target with six balls remaining, propelled by half-centuries from Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Ibrahim Zadran, and Rahmat Shah.

After the consecutive losses in the ODI World Cup 2023, the chances of Pakistan reaching the semifinal have almost finished. Babar Azam and company have faced three back-to-back losses in the tournament so far.

Afridi suggested that Babar should acquire the skill of putting pressure on batsmen with an aggressive field setup. The veteran advised the Pakistan captain to follow the mindset of the Australian batter.

“It is the captain’s job to apply pressure, a pacer is bowling and there is no slip? Four are required on 12 balls and you’ve taken a backward point? Apply pressure. What do the Australians do? They take one to two wickets and then put all of their players in the circle to apply pressure as they did against Pakistan,” Afridi was quoted as saying to a local
