2023 ODI World Cup: ‘I Just Make Everyone Look Stupid’, David Warner Talks About His Critics After A Solid Form In The Tournament

Veteran Australian opening batsman David Warner addressed whether his outstanding batting performances in the 2023 World Cup have been motivated by his critics. He expressed caution regarding England even though the English team is almost out of the tournament.

David Warner has gathered 413 runs in six matches at an impressive average of 68.83 in the 2023 World Cup, placing him second in terms of the highest run-scorers behind Quinton de Kock. The left-handed batsman achieved back-to-back centuries against Pakistan and Netherlands.

When asked about whether his critics have served as motivation for his performances, the opener said, “Nup, I just make everyone look stupid.”

The 36-year-old stressed his objective of securing a strong start for Australia and lauded Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh for their consistent ability to put pressure on the opposing teams.

“Everyone keeps writing me off. I’m doing as well as I can, I’m just trying to go out there and start as well as I can up front in the first 10 (overs). If I get in, I try to make the most of it. It’s also awesome to have Heady and Mitch there as well because it allows that pressure to keep being put back onto the opposition.”

David Warner is also alert from England and said that a team is most dangerous when they have nothing to lose.

“It’d be nice. But they’re the teams that are the most dangerous when there’s nothing to lose. They’ve got some very, very (high) quality players and we have to respect it. They bat at 11 and their bowling unit is very good.”
