“You will not see most of the senior players in T20I next year….” Big Update Of BCCI On Senior Players Rohit, Virat, and Ashwin

After the humiliating loss in the semi-final encounter against England by 10 wickets, all hopes of the Indian team to win the ICC Men’s T20 Trophy ended. In the previous T20 World Cup 2021, the Indian team exited in the group stage and that time skipper Virat Kohli was criticized by the fans and experts. And the same thing happened again in this ICC T20 World Cup under the captaincy of veteran Rohit Sharma and it looks like the Indian team is developing a habit of getting burst under the pressure of the knockout matches in the big tournaments. Many cricket pundits are blaming the traditional approach of the Indian team’s senior for this continuous failure.

Looks like the Indian team is ready to change the approach as also the senior players. As per reports, Indian selectors are thinking of a new skipper and some changes in the shortest format of the squad to build a strong squad in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024.

Speaking on the new T20I squad setup, head coach Rahu Dravid gave an important update that it’s too early to predict any transition or new setup in T20I. But the report from the source mentioned that regular skipper Rohit Sharma, run-machine Virat Kohli, and R Ashwin will gradually quit the shortest format.

The most important update on the new T20I setup is that Hardik will be the regular skipper of the shortest format for men in blue and we will continue to see most of the players participate in the Newzealand series in the Indian team setup with some inclusions of young guns.

“BCCI never asks anyone to retire, it is a personal decision of a player. But yes, with just a handful of T20Is scheduled in 2023, most of the seniors will concentrate on ODIs and Test matches in that cycle. You don’t need to announce retirement if you don’t want to. You will not see most of the seniors playing T20 next year” a BCCI source said to PTI.

However, the full focus of men in blue is now towards to 50-overs format because of the upcoming ODI world cup 2023 in India and that’s why Indian seniors will mostly concentrate on this format. There is only a handful no. of T20Is in the next year so team management will try to bloom the younger generation and due to this role of Indian seniors will gradually decrease in this format.
