Mumbai Indians once again started with a defeat in the IPL, and this is the 11th time in the history of IPL that MI started their campaign with a loss.
The 5th match of IPL-2023 was played at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Mumbai Indians scored 171 runs for 7 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs, after which RCB achieved the target in 16.2 overs thanks to the brilliant performance of Virat Kohli and Captain Faf. Tilak Verma scored the highest 84 runs for the Mumbai team and returned unbeaten. Tilak faced 46 balls and hit 9 fours and 4 sixes in his unbeaten innings.
Every cricketer praised Tilak Varma’s performance, which he played under pressure. He came to bat when the Mumbai score was just 20 runs, and after that, he built his innings from scratch, added 84 runs in just 46 balls, and built a respectful total on the board.
Mumbai Indians lost the match is another point of view, but the knock of Tilak was overwhelming, and a new star is coming for the Indian team.
Appreciating the knock of Tilak, former Indian cricketer Md. Kaif praised Tilak’s performance, especially his helicopter shot on the last ball of the innings.
“Leg side is his strong suit. He uses his bottom hand but also makes room, hits sixes straight down the ground, and plays the scoop shot. So it is not that he can only score on the leg side. The helicopter shot – if you watch it through a mirror, you will feel it is MS Dhoni because you will see him as a right-hander there.” Kaif praised Mumbai Indians batter Tilak Verma for his outstanding knock.
“The most difficult time was last year. Mumbai was struggling and losing matches continuously, but his bat kept firing. So he showed that he had courage. He played for the first time for the Mumbai Indians and scored regularly, and he continued that form here.” Kaif further added on Tilak.
In 2022, Tilak performed very well and scored 397 runs at an impressive strike rate of 131.02 in 14 matches.
