“you stay calm….” How Did Rohit Sharma’s “You Stay Calm” Dig Affect England’s Bazball?

Team India won the Rajkot test by a huge margin of 434 runs as they defeated England in the third test match of the series, taking a lead of 2-1 in the series.

However, after the match got over, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma took a dig at England’s Bazball style of playing by saying that in a test match, it’s important for a team to stay in the hunt for all five days.

Speaking at the post-match presentation, Rohit said, “When you play Test cricket, you do not play it in a couple of Days days or three days. You have to stay in the contest for all five days. England played some good shots (in the second inning) and put us under the pump, but as a team, we have class in our squad when it comes to bowling. So obviously, the message to all the players was to stay calm (after day two). It’s quite important at that time to stay calm; otherwise, you drift. We stuck to our plans on day three, and when those things happen, it is a special feeling.”.

Speaking on the promotion of Jadeja at number five, Rohit Sharma said that Ravindra Jadeja is quite an experienced player and has been scoring a lot of runs for Team India in recent times. Rohit also said that he wanted to give Sarfraz Khan a bit of time before he came out to bat because everyone knows what Sarfraz can do with the bat.

On being asked about what he felt was the turning point of the match, Rohit said, “There are a lot of turning points. Once we won the toss, it was a good toss to win. As a team, we know runs on board are very important in India. The lead was also very important for us. The way we came out to bowl after the English batters’ onslaught, it was important to stay calm. Our bowlers showed a lot of character. Not to forget, we did not have our most experienced test bowler too (Ravichandran Ashwin, who missed day three due to personal reasons). As a captain, I was very proud to watch the bowlers.

Then, in our second inning, we knew half the job was done. We just wanted to extend the lead as much as possible, and the two youngsters helped. And then finally, Jadeja.”
Team India will play against England in Ranchi for the fourth test match of the series, starting on February 23.
