Arjun Tendulkar’s start in the IPL hasn’t been all that special. People had high hopes for him, especially since he’s Sachin Tendulkar’s son. In 2023, he played four matches for the Mumbai Indians and took three wickets, but this year in 2024, he didn’t manage to take any wickets in the one match he played.
Yograj Singh, who is Yuvraj Singh’s dad and a former cricketer, trained Arjun for a short time. After that, Arjun hit a century in the Ranji Trophy. In an interview with Taruwar Kohli, Yograj mentioned that Arjun should concentrate more on his batting. He said, If Arjun comes to me now, I can make him the best batter in just six months. Nobody knows how good he is with the bat. He scored a century on his Ranji debut after just 12 days of training with me. Did anyone notice that? Yograj said this on Kohli’s YouTube channel.
He recalled that Sachin and Yuvraj asked him to train Arjun, and after working together, he thought, Why is he being wasted as a bowler? He’s such a great batter. Yograj thinks Arjun would do better as a batting all-rounder.
In another interview, Yograj claimed that during those 12 days, Arjun made his First Class debut for Goa and scored a century against Rajasthan, which led to his IPL contract with the Mumbai Indians. Yograj also expressed that the reason Arjun stopped training with him was that people were worried about his name being linked to Yograj’s. After he scored that hundred, people got nervous about what would happen if he was associated with me, Yograj explained in a podcast.
In 2023, Arjun played five IPL matches and took three wickets in total. For the IPL 2025 mega auctions, the Mumbai Indians picked him up again at his base price of Rs 30 lakhs. As for Yograj, he played one Test and six ODIs for India, with his last game being in 1981.
