Yograj Singh has a reputation of making very firm and sometimes even shocking statements every time he opens his mouth in reference to cricket. This time, he has focused his criticism on Arjun Tendulkar, the son of the Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar.
To be precise, Yograj has suggested the young Tendulkar mainly work on his batting. He believes that the player has the potential to be a great batter who even resembles Sachin in his technique.
Yograj Singh expresses his opinion about Arjun Tendulkar
Yograj Singh, by birth the father of the Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh, aired his opinions in a conversation with journalist Ravish Bisht. He absolutely and unambiguously said that Arjun has great batting potential and the skills to be a good batter.
In the same breath, Yograj simply stated that “the son of Tendulkar needs to pay more attention to his batting; he is a good batter, and his style is that of Sachin.”
The statement was under the spotlight immediately. Most importantly, Yograj has been with Arjun during his formative years and, hence, his comments do carry significant weight. The majority of the public found the remark very entertaining, especially because of the fact that the boy is mostly identified as a pacer.
Tendulkar junior going through a poor phase in domestic cricket
Meanwhile, Arjun is presently on the team of Goa for the Vijay Hazare Trophy (VHT 2025-26) tournament. Throughout the years, he has been compared to his father Sachin Tendulkar, who is considered one of the greatest batsmen in cricket history, so often that no other wizard in the world would be able to remove such an impressive comparison and public interest with a magic wand.
To start with, let me tell you that in the still-going Vijay Hazare Trophy, Arjun was the one who first started the batting for Goa. This decision took a lot of people by surprise as Arjun is mostly viewed as a bowler and not a recognised top-order batter. Nevertheless, he was given the task of opening the innings.
In one of the matches against Mumbai, his previous team, Arjun opened the innings and got 24 runs off 27 balls. This output was not that great but still was able to create some discussion around his batting capability.
Arjun had not taken a single wicket in his ongoing VHT matches and had also scored 44 runs in 3 matches, in fact, both being equal number.
During an interview with ex-Rajasthan Royals and Kings XI Punjab player Taruwar Kohli, Yograj Singh made the boldest statement about Arjun’s skills. On Kohli’s YouTube channel, Yograj told that with his training, Arjun could be the world’s best renowned batter in just six months.
“If the son of Tendulkar, Arjun comes to me today, I will make him the world’s best batter in six months. Nobody knows how much potential he has with the bat. He was with me for 12 days, scored a century in Ranji Trophy debut. Did anybody notice?” said Yograj Singh.
Arjun’s domestic career so far
Let me remind you that Arjun Tendulkar has been a participant in 22 first-class matches so far, during which he has managed to take 48 wickets. When it comes to List A cricket, his performance shows that he has taken 25 wickets in 21 matches. His total of 35 wickets from 29 T20 matches is nothing compared to the number of games he has played in the IPL which is only five matches with three wickets at an economy rate of 9.36.
The year 2021 marked the beginning of Arjun’s domestic career with Mumbai. Before the onset of the 2022-23 season, he made a switch to Goa.
