WTC Final: BCCI Announces Replacement For KL Rahul, Umesh Yadav Participation Also In Mess

Team India has included Ishan Kishan in their squad for the 2023 World Test Championship final as the replacement of KL Rahul who is out from the team due to a thigh injury. Kishan has been brought in as a backup wicketkeeper to KS Bharat. KL Rahul was likely to be the first wicketkeeper choice for the WTC Final but now one between KS Bharat and Ishan Kishan will be the part of playing XI. Team India will play the final of the WTC against Australia at the Oval on June 7.

Although Ishan Kishan has not yet played Test cricket, he has appeared in 14 One Day Internationals and 27 Twenty20 Internationals for India. In the India squad for the World Test Championship final, Kishan is the second wicketkeeper after KS Bharat. Bharat made his Test debut in February 2021 against Australia when Rishabh Pant was unavailable.

India’s injury concerns may not be resolved yet. The Board of Control for Cricket in India has provided important updates on two of their top fast bowlers. These bowlers sustained injuries while playing in the ongoing 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL).

BCCI explained the situation of Jaydev Unadkat, the left-arm pacer who sustained a shoulder injury while practicing in nets for LSG. He said,”Jaydev Unadkat sustained a left shoulder injury by tripping over the side rope while bowling in the nets. A specialist consultation has been sought and the left-arm fast bowler is currently at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru undergoing strength and rehab sessions for his shoulder. A decision on his participation in the WTC final will be taken at a later stage.”

Umesh Yadav has also been added to the list of injured players as he suffered a hamstring injury while playing for Kolkata Knight Riders against Royal Challengers Bangalore on April 26.
