Will Ben Stokes Come Out Of Retirement To Play 2023 ODI World Cup? Captain Buttler Gives A Surprising Answer

The 2023 ODI World Cup is all set to take place in India later this year and before it the England white-ball captain Jos Buttler has talked about the possibilities of Ben Stokes coming out of retirement to play in the tournament. Buttler has stated that Ben Stokes won’t be playing in the 2023 ODI World Cup, which will take place in India later this year.

While some fans feel hopeful that Stokes would come out of his ODI retirement, Buttler said the team is prepared as though he won’t be present for the major event. In order to balance his workload in Tests and T20 Internationals, the 31-year-old said goodbye to the 50-over format in 2022.

The wicketkeeper batter later said that Stokes is now the captain of the Test side and he will lead England in Ashes for the first time. Sharing his thoughts on Mirror Butter said,”If he (Stokes) wants to change his decision, of course he’d be welcomed back with open arms but we are very much at the moment planning as if he won’t be available.”

Recently the white-ball coach of England, Matthew Mott has said that Stokes is an experienced and class player and if he thinks to come out of retirement then he can.

Notably, Stokes played a key role in England’s first-ever ODI World Cup victory at Lords in 2019, when he assisted England in securing a thrilling victory over New Zealand. By scoring an unbeaten 52 against Pakistan in the T20 World Cup final, he was also crucial in England’s recent victory.

With series wins against New Zealand, South Africa, and Pakistan, Stokes has also been outstanding as Test captain. Being the defending World Cup champions, England will be among one of the favourites to win the competition. They are currently involved in a three-match ODI series with the Proteas.
