Why Were Sarfaraz Khan and Dhruv Jurel Overlooked for BCCI Contracts?

The board of cricket control in India, BCCI, has announced the contract for the players for the upcoming season of 2023–24, and 30 players have been given the central contract by BCCI for the upcoming season.

However, BCCI made some minor changes to the contracted players list from the previous year.

Two of the notable exclusions were Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer, as the duo were playing all three formats for India in the past year.

Ishan Kishan was earlier included in the grade C contract, while Shreyas Iyer was part of the grade B contract. Both of the players are not part of any of the four grades now, as per the latest changes.

However, out of all the 30 players on the list that have been announced by BCCI for central contract, two, Sarfraz Khan and Dhurv Jurel, were not handed central contracts in spite of their impressive performances in the ongoing test series.

This is because the BCCI mentioned that athletes who meet the criteria of playing at least three Tests, eight ODIs, or ten T20Is within a specified duration will automatically be part of Grade C on a pro-rata basis, and this is the reason that Sarfraz Khan and Dhurv Jurel are not included in the central contract list.

However, both Sarfraz Khan and Dhurv Jurel will be automatically included in the central contract list if both players are included in the line-up for the final test match of the series.
