‘Why is Umesh playing? Deepak Chahar… confusion to zaroor hai’: Ex-pacer’s criticized India selection

Umesh Yadav got the chance to play in the Indian team after more than 3 years. On 20th September 2022, he played the T20I match against Australia in Mohali, where he bowled 2 overs and took 2 wickets with an economy rate of 13.50. Australia chased down the massive total with an ease. Cameron Green played a special knock of 61 runs in just 30 balls, giving an excellent start to kangaroos. Finisher Mathew Wade also played a destructive inning of 45* runs in 21 balls, helping the visitor to chase the target. In this match, Indian team faced the same bowling issue, which they had faced in the Asia Cup 2022. Star pacers Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Harshal Patel conceded 101 runs in 8 overs.

After the lousy performance of the bowler, Former Indian pacer Ashish Nehra said Deepak Chahar should had played the first T20I against Australia instead of Umesh Yadav. Umesh Yadav is not even selected for the upcoming T20 World Cup, whereas Deepak Chahar is on the standby list for upcoming mega events alongside Mohammad Shami.

Ashish Nehra said, “Why is Umesh Yadav playing? You brought Shami, and then you had Deepak Chahar. You said Bumrah wasn’t fit, and I would also like to know why you didn’t play Deepak Chahar. There was a time when Chahar was the frontrunner to replace Bhuvneshwar Kumar. If Deepak Chahar was fit to play and Umesh Yadav has played ahead of him, then confusion to zaroor hai”.

In the 2nd T20I match against Australia, it will be exciting to see who will get the place in the playing XI. Star pacer Jasprit Bumrah is set to return on the 2nd T20I against Australia. Let’s see whether Bumrah’s return would solve the team’s bowling issues.
