Why Is England’s Team Performing Poorly In The 2023 ODI World Cup? Gautam Gambhir Tells The Reason

The defending champions England cricket team is not playing in the tournament up to the mark. England have lost five matches out of six which they have played till now. The former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir has said that the poor performance of Joe Root has been the prime reason for the downfall of England in the ongoing ODI World Cup.

After an impressive start to the tournament with two consecutive half-centuries, Root’s performance took a significant downturn, managing a mere 16 runs in his subsequent four innings. His extremely poor batting has been a major factor contributing to England’s overall failure in the World Cup. As the defending champions, they currently occupy the last position on the points table, having secured only one victory in six matches.

In a crucial match against India, which was a must-win situation for England to maintain any faint hopes of reaching the semi-finals, Root was dismissed without scoring a single run. This contributed to England’s downfall as they suffered a 100-run loss.

While speaking on Joe Root’s dismissal, Gambhir said, “If you see England’s batting lineup, apart from Joe Root, all the other guys want to play aggressive cricket,” Gambhir said. “It is the form of Joe Root that has been the most damaging thing for this batting lineup because this entire batting lineup revolves around him.”
