Why did India champions pull out of their match against Pakistan? Here’s what you need to know

The World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2025 had some India versus Pakistan drama when the two squads were set to play each other in the semi-final. Like before, Indian players like Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh, and Shikhar Dhawan didn’t want to play Pakistan in the knockout game, so their opponents got to go to the final automatically.

Even though this choice meant India didn’t get to compete for the championship, one of the squad members said the players don’t feel bad about it because their country is what matters most to them.

We’re not playing against Pakistan (in the semi-finals). Our country will always come first. We’ll do anything for India. We’re proud to be on the Indian squad. We worked hard to get the Indian flag on our shirts. We’ll never let our country down, no matter what, the person said to the Times of India, asking to not be named.

The squad member stated that the players would have felt the same way even if the two squads were going to play in the final.

If we had made it to the final and were up against Pakistan, we all would have done the same thing. All of us Indians agree on this, the person added.

Even though both squads had the same amount of points after India refused to play, Pakistan will now move on to the finals because they had the most points overall, with four wins and nine points.

Because of a terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir that occurred earlier in April, the competing relationship between the two countries has gone down again. This was followed by ‘Operation Sindoor’ by the Indian Armed Forces as payback for the attack.

For now, it seems like things are normal in international cricket. Both squads are set to play each other in the Asia Cup in the UAE on September 14, and the Indian women’s squad will play their ICC Women’s World Cup game against their rivals on October 6 in Colombo.
