Who Will Lead India In The T20I Series Against Afghanistan? BCCI Names The Possible Replacement

After the two-match Test series against South Africa, the India Cricket Team is set to face Afghanistan in a three-match T20I series. The upcoming series between India and Afghanistan marks the final bilateral T20I series before the T20 World Cup in 2024.

However, due to injuries Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav, and Ruturaj Gaikwad, all the three captains have been sidelined and now the BCCI has identified a replacement.

As per the reports, Rohit Sharma will end his long drought and will captain India in the upcoming T20I series against Afghanistan. India squad for the same is expected to be announced by next week.

Rohit Sharma has been absent from T20I action since the T20 World Cup 2022. However, with selectors and the BCCI expressing their desire for him to lead India in the T20 World Cup 2024, there’s a possibility of his return for the three matches before shifting focus back to Tests.

While having a conversation with Inside Sports, A BCCI Official said,”It’s up to the selectors to decide who will lead the side. We had a lengthy discussion with Rohit and he is ready to lead in the T20 World Cup. But the England Test series is more important. And Ajit (Agarkar) will talk to Rohit and take a call on whether he will return for the series.”
