Trent Boult has been a crucial member of the New Zealand national squad for a year. The 33-year-old left-handed swing bowler is still one of the most effective players in cricket. New Zealand Cricket decided to end Trent Boult’s central contract last year. The reason was Boult showed his desire to play in the different T20 leagues all across the globe.
Boult is currently playing for the MI Emirates in the International League T20 in the UAE. Boult might return to the BlackCaps to helm the team’s bowling attack as the ICC ODI World Cup is all set to happen in the second half of this year.
There are no ifs and but if Boult returns to the national team, it will boost the confidence of young bowlers in the marquee event ahead.
“The door is very much open, Gary [Stead, the head coach] and Trent talk on a regular basis. We all know Boulty’s pedigree, his experience, and just what a great match-winner he is and has been over the years for us,” said Gavin Larsen on SENZ Mornings.
Larsen further added, “We want him to be involved, we’d love for him to be involved; we understand entirely his situation, so we will keep working with him. We’ve got a World Cup at the end of the year, and I’ve got my fingers crossed that if the stars align, we’ll have a certain Trent Boult opening the bowling for us.”
