‘Whenever Dravid Says Such Things, Mostly The Player Has…’, Aakash Chopra On Shubman Gill’s Availability In The Match Against Australia

India will face Australia on October 8 at MA Chidambaram Stadium, in Chennai. It will be the first match for both teams in this ODI World Cup edition.

Shubman Gill is said to be suffering from dengue. During a press conference on Friday, Team India’s head coach Rahul Dravid mentioned that Gill has not been ruled out yet and that the medical team is keeping an eye on his condition. In response to Dravid’s statement, Aakash Chopra remarked that when a coach says such things it often means that the player has been ruled out from the team.

While speaking on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra talked about the situation of Gill and said.

“Shubman Gill is unwell. At the press conference, Rahul Dravid said that he’s not too bad and we are watching and we are not ruling him out. But, whenever Rahul Dravid says such things, mostly the player has already been ruled out. I am assuming that Ishan Kishan will open the innings with Rohit Sharma.”

Chopra also said that the absence of Shubman Gill will definitely hamper team India’s first encounter against Australia.

“It’s not a great story for the simple reason that Shubman and Rohit strike fear [in the minds of the opposition]. It’s not like Ishan won’t be feared, but you want to start the World Cup with your best opening combination. In Mohali as well as in the next game [against Australia in Indore], Gill was in attacking mode. So, it would have been good if he was there, but that is unlikely to be the case.”

In the recently concluded ODI series against Australia, Gill made an impressive contribution with the bat by scoring 74 and 104 runs in the first two ODIs.
