Former Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer has commended Ajinkya Rahane for his remarkable comeback to the Indian Test team during the World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia. Rahane, who had a successful Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 season, showcased his abilities under pressure and delivered notable performances.
Following an impressive IPL season where he displayed an aggressive batting approach, Ajinkya Rahane earned his place back in the Test squad for the highly anticipated WTC final. Despite India’s disappointing performance in the final, Rahane’s batting stood out as one of the few positives.
Applauding Rahane over his impressive comeback to the Test team, Jaffer told Sportskeeda: “The way he batted in both innings and absorbed the pressure… India was under pressure in both innings when he walked out to bat. India was chasing a big score in the first innings, and it was the same story in the second innings. He has shown that he can absorb that pressure.
Wasim Jaffer, expressing his admiration for Rahane’s successful return, highlighted how the seasoned batsman handled the pressure in both innings. Rahane entered the crease when India was under pressure and showcased his ability to absorb that pressure.
“When Ajinkya Rahane plays attacking and positive cricket, he is a different player. I just hope he plays and stays consistent from here on,” Jaffer added.

During the first innings, with India struggling at 71/4 in response to Australia’s total of 469, Rahane partnered with Ravindra Jadeja (48) for a crucial 71-run stand for the fifth wicket. Additionally, in the second innings, Rahane combined with Virat Kohli (49) for an 86-run partnership for the fourth wicket. However, after their partnership was broken, India faltered and was bowled out for 234.
