Team India’s star-off spinner opened up about the roller coaster that he went on during the Rajkot Test against England. Ashwin was completely blank as soon as he heard the news about his mother getting ill.
Ashwin completed his milestone of 500 test wickets but was not able to control his tears as soon as he got the news from his wife about his mother getting ill. Ashwin also shared that skipper Rohit Sharma, along with Jay Shah, helped him visit his mother during that tough time.
R. Ashwin left India’s squad after the end of day two play as soon as his mother collapsed because of head pain.
While Ashiwn completed his milestone of 500 wickets in test matches, his personal life took a drastic turn as his mother was admitted to the hospital.Ashwin did not play on the third day but came back on day four of the match to rejoin the squad.
Ashwin said that he was helpless in the hotel as skipper Rohit Sharma and head coach Rahul Dravid came to have a cheek on the star spinner. Ashwin said that he was not able to decide whether to play a test match or go see his mother; however, it was Skipper Rohit Sharma who convinced him to go and see his mother.
On his YouTube video, Ashwin said, “After getting my 500th wicket, I was waiting for a call or a message from my parents and my wife. It was 7 p.m., and I found it strange that they hadn’t called me. I thought, ‘Maybe they are giving some interviews and responding to congratulatory messages’.”
“But around 7 p.m., I called my wife before going to shower. My parents did not pick up the calls. And I found my wife’s voice was breaking. She asked me to move away from my teammates, and then she told me that my mother collapsed after a severe headache.”I kind of blanked out. I did not know how to react. I didn’t know how to ask her a question. I was crying, but I was trying to make sure no one saw me crying. I don’t know why I felt like that, but it was instinctive. I felt blank. I sat in my room alone. I was crying. Ashwin concluded.
