West Indies Named Squad For Preparatory Camp Ahead Of Test Series Against India

The West Indies cricket team is gearing up for their highly anticipated home series against India. However, the team’s preparations could have been more successful as several key players currently participate in the ICC World Cup 2023 Qualifiers in Zimbabwe. Jason Holder, Kyle Mayers, Alzarri Joseph, and Roston Chase, integral to the West Indies’ lineup, could not join the 18-member squad announced by Cricket West Indies for the preparatory camp.

The squad selected for the preparatory camp, commencing on June 30 in Antigua, features captain Kraigg Brathwaite and several established Test regulars. Notable players include Jermaine Blackwood, Tagenarine Chanderpaul, Rahkeem Cornwall, Joshua Da Silva, Shannon Gabriel, and Kemar Roach. The camp aims to fine-tune their strategies and build synergy within the team ahead of the upcoming series against India. The West Indies’ initial squad for the Test matches against India comprises a mix of experienced players and promising talents.

“CWI Men’s Selection Panel today named the 18-member squad for the preparation camp ahead of the two-match Cycle Pure Agarbathi Test Series against India in the Caribbean. Camp starts at CCG in Antigua on Friday, June 30. The team travels to Dominica on Sunday, July 9,” Cricket West Indies said.

Conversely, India has already announced their full-strength 16-member Test squad, captained by Rohit Sharma. The Indian team boasts the presence of stalwarts like Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Mohammed Siraj. The squad includes young talents such as Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Mukesh Kumar. In early July, the Indian cricketers will depart for the Caribbean islands to familiarize themselves with the conditions. The tour will feature two Test matches, three ODIs, and five T20Is.

The West Indies versus India Test series holds immense significance for both teams. It provides an opportunity for the West Indies to showcase their skills against one of the world’s top-ranked teams and serves as a platform for their players to gain invaluable experience and exposure. The series also allows India to test their mettle in overseas conditions and further solidify their standing as a dominant force in international cricket.
