West Indies Cricket Board Announced Squad For ODI Series Against England

The West Indies cricket team, having missed the recently concluded ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, sets its sights on the 2027 edition. With an eager eye on redemption, the team announced its ODI squad for the upcoming series against England. This move not only signifies a fresh start in the 50-over format but also aims to lay the groundwork for a successful campaign in the next World Cup.

The absence of the West Indies in the most recent World Cup marked a significant departure for a team that had clinched the title twice. Eager to rectify this, the Caribbean outfit is gearing up for the series against England as a crucial step in their redemption mission.

Chief selector and former opener Desmond Haynes shared insights into the team’s aspirations, emphasizing a focus on the future. “Our main focus is to rebuild for success at the ICC Cricket World Cup 2027,” he declared, outlining a clear vision for the road ahead.

“We expect this to be a hard-fought series, but we also believe this squad will do well in our home conditions. We have a clear vision. We are focused on building a solid team. Our main focus is to rebuild for success at the ICC Cricket World Cup 2027,” he added.

Shai Hope retains his position as the captain, entrusted with leading the squad in the upcoming series. The fast-bowler Alzarri Joseph is appointed as his deputy, adding a dynamic touch to the team’s leadership.

In a surprising turn, the ODI squad excludes prominent names like Jason Holder and Nicholas Pooran. The omission suggests a strategic shift as the team introduces fresh faces to bolster its lineup.

The squad features uncapped allrounders Sherfane Rutherford and Matthew Forde, injecting youthful vigour and versatility into the team. Their inclusion reflects a commitment to nurturing emerging talents.

Experienced players Shane Dowrich and Kjorn Ottley are back in the mix, adding a blend of seasoned performance to the squad. Their presence is expected to provide stability and mentorship to the younger players.

The three-match ODI series is set to kick off on December 3 at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua. The subsequent matches are scheduled for December 6 at the same venue and December 9 at the Kensington Oval in Barbados.
