Another upset happened in the T20 World Cup 2022, minnow Netherlands defeated mighty South Africa in their last encounter of the super 12 at Adelaide Oval.
On Sunday, South African skipper Temba Bavuma won the toss and invited the opponent to bat first. The start of the Netherlands was outstanding, their opener Myburgh and Max ODowrd added 58 runs on the board for the first wicket, then Tom Copper came at the third position and played a destructive knock of 35 runs off 19 balls and his partner Ackermann joined him in the blistering run race and scored 41 in just 26 deliveries with the help of 3 fours and 2 sixes and helped to set the 158 runs on the board. From South Africa, Keshaw Maharaj took 2 wickets and Nortje and Markram grabbed 1-1 wicket each.
In reply, once again proteas opener failed to give a good start and scored 21 runs for the first wicket and once again de Kock went early in this tournament, the scoreboard was 39 when the skipper Bavuma went to the pavilion on the ball of Meekeren. Rilee Rossouw and Aiden Markram tried to establish the innings but the Netherlands bowler was outstanding and they dismissed both the batter on just 90 runs on the borad. The required run rate was skyrocketed, star batter David Miller and Heinrich Klaasen tried to maintain it but the Dutch’s bowler became the road throne for the Proteas batter and they lost the thriller encounter by 13 runs. From the Dutch side, Brandon Glover took 3 wickets, Fred Klaassen and Bas de Leede grabbed 2-2 wickets each Whereas Paul van Meekeren snatched 1 wicket.
After this upset, master blaster Sachin Tendulkar tweeted a hilarious comment on the South African derby after they lost against minnows Netherlands.
“Went for breakfast with a friend. Told him we’ll go Dutch. He almost choked at the proposition! #SAvsNED” Sachin tweeted.
After his furious tweet, his opening partner and former Indian Cricketer Virendar Sehwag also shared a witty comment on the T20 World Cup.
“What a World Cup this has been. Full of twists and turns. Netherlands eliminating South Africa. Maza aa raha hai #NedvSA,” Sehwag tweeted.
The way Dutch played against the enormous Proteas was outstanding. This is one of the major upsets of this T20 World Cup, now the South African derby is almost out of the semi-final race. Indian team became the first team who have qualified for the semis from Group 2 and Pakistan becomes 2nd team.
