“We Should Make Some Modification In T20 Format of Cricket” Ravi Ashwin Gave Important Suggestion On T20 Cricket Dynamics

Indian team lost the T20 World Cup 2021 in the league round and repeated the same lousy show in this year’s T20 World Cup in Australia, as well. Indian team’s exit from T20 World Cup 2022 after losing the all-important clash against England in the semi-final was disappointing for the men in blue and their fans.

Looking at next year’s IPL, Indian veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin suggested some modifications in this franchise-based league so, that it could help in rebuilding the Indian team in this shortest format of cricket.

“I feel we have a long way to go in understanding T20 cricket. It’s important to know how the end user is consuming the game. Based on that only the rest of the things will start happening. Let’s start with the IPL itself” said Ravi Ashwin.
He shared his thoughts on player awards, like in the Indian Premier League the most wicket-taker and most run scorer are rewarded with purple cap and orange cup respectively. He suggested whether we can change this approach of giving awards based on the most runs scored or most wickets struck.

“We have orange and purple caps. Both have a significant volume when it comes to the IPL. It talks about the volume of runs and the volume of wickets. Whether we need to rethink on that itself is my thought” Ashwin further added.

This thought came from Ravi Ashwin after observing the T20 World Cup award ceremony, because the reward of “player of the tournament” was given to Sam Curran, who had scored just 12 runs and took 13 wickets in the tournament. He was neither first in the list of most wicket takers nor in the top position of run scored list still, he got the best award of the tournament.

We know that T20 cricket is evolving day by day so some other important decisions we should take to improve Indian cricket in the shortest format of cricket. Indian Premier League 2023 will be held next year but the auction of the IPL 2023 will be held on 23rd December in Kochi.
