Watch VIDEO: Tim Paine Receives Guard Of Honour As He Retires From First Class Cricket

Australia wicket-keeper Tim Paine who used to be the captain of the Australian Test cricket team has announced his retirement from all types of domestic cricket with immediate effect.

At the age of 38, Tim Paine played his last domestic game in the Sheffield Shield game for Tasmania this week, which ended in a draw against Queensland in Hobart. When leaving Blundstone Arena on Friday afternoon he was given a guard of honor by both his teammates and opponents.

He made his first-class debut in 2005. Tim Paine has played in 95 Sheffield Shield matches for Tasmania in which he had 296 dismissals to his name as the wicket-keeper.

Tasmania captain Jordan Silk talked about Tim Paine and said, “He’s been a phenomenal player. It’s an effort to have the longevity that he’s had. He’s certainly going to be missed behind the stumps. I don’t think there will ever be another wicketkeeper as good as Tim Paine in Australia.”

Tim Paine has also represented Australia in 35 Test matches. He was appointed as the captain of the Australian Test team in 2018 and held the position until 2021. In the Test, he scored 1535 runs for Australia. He has played the same number of ODIs for Australia as well and has 890 runs from his bat.
