India’s victory over Sri Lanka wasn’t just a win; it was a statement of authority. The margin of 302 runs is unprecedented in the cricket world, emphasizing India’s superiority on the field.

After the match, the announcement of the ‘Best Fielder’ award added an extra layer of excitement. The legendary Sachin Tendulkar revealed the winner’s name. This award, a testament to fielding excellence, was presented to Shreyas Iyer for his outstanding performance against Sri Lanka.

Sachin Tendulkar, a cricketing legend, appeared surprised at the Wankhede Stadium to announce the ‘Best Fielder’ award. This added an extra element of prestige to the recognition bestowed upon Shreyas Iyer.

The defeat dealt a severe blow to Sri Lanka’s chances of advancing to the knockout stages. Kusal Mendis’s team suffered their fifth defeat in seven matches, putting them in a precarious position in the tournament.

Sri Lanka’s chase began in the worst possible manner, with Jasprit Bumrah taking a wicket on the first delivery and Mohammed Siraj claiming the next three wickets. This early onslaught reduced Sri Lanka to a precarious four for three runs.

Mohammed Shami joined the attack and continued the onslaught, securing a five-wicket haul. His exceptional performance ensured India’s dominant display. Shami concluded with remarkable figures of 5-18, while Siraj took 3-16. This combined effort led to Sri Lanka’s dismissal for a mere 55 runs, their lowest total in a 50-over World Cup.
