The wicketkeeper-batsman from India Ishan Kishan shared his father Pranav Kumar Pandey’s initial reaction after receiving his first test call-up during a BCCI.tv interview with Shubman Gill.
Ishan received his first call-up to the Indian Test team for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which kicks off on February 9 in Nagpur.
While talking about his father, Ishan Kishan told Shubman Gill – “I broke the news to my family. My father was super pumped, he said ‘aise hi mehnat karna hai, aise hi practice karni hai (Keep working hard like this, keep practising like this).”
Talking further Ishan Kishan also talked about how his father always wanted to play the longest format of the game.
“When I was playing white ball, he used to keep reminding me about how Test cricket is real cricket, where a batsman faces real challenges and his skill in Tests gets tested. To play at that level is a big thing. I was very happy when I got the news of my Test call-up and if I get the chance I will try to perform well for the team,” he said.
However, it won’t be easy for Ishan Kishan to be the part of playing XI as KS Bharat is already playing some beautiful innings across the domestic circuit.
Bharat, who has been part of the squad for almost a year, has scored three half-centuries in the last four first-class games. Also, it included a 77-run inning for India A against Bangladesh A.
