After the inclusion of star Indian off-spinner R Ashwin in the ODI World Cup 2023, Former Indian opening batsman Wasim Jaffer extended his congratulations to the experienced spinner. The former Test cricketer expressed his hope for Ashwin to take wickets at both ends during the prestigious tournament. The tournament in India starts on October 5.
The star spinner has replaced the left handed all-rounder Axar Patel for the upcoming ODI World Cup. Axar suffered a quadriceps injury in the super 4 match of the Asia Cup 2023 against Bangladesh.
Former Indian opener Wasim Jaffer took to his X(formerly twitter) and wrote,”Congratulations on making the WC squad @ashwinravi99 wish you lots of wickets at both ends CWC23.”
The cricketer from Tamil Nadu delivered an exceptional performance in two of the three ODIs in the recent series against Australia, which India won 2-1. He secured four wickets, where in the second ODI he dismissed David Warner, Marnus Labuschagne, and Josh Inglis.

Rohit Sharma also praised Ashwin and said,”You cannot take away the class and the experience that the individual has over the years and in the last couple of games we saw how well he bowled. He’s got a lot of variation up his sleeves and in case there is a chance, we can look at a lot of things.”
He further added,”So hopefully, the way things are at this point in time, it does well for us because we’ve got all the backups and everything ready as well.”
