Wasim Jaffer Picks A Surprising Name As The Next CSK Captain After MS Dhoni’s Retirement

After a poor performance in IPL 2022, Chennai Super Kings will look to come back in style. The franchise has already submitted the names of retained players and the team is still looking strong at least on paper.

However, a series of rumors are going around the cricket fans that IPL 2023 could be the last of legendary CSK captain MS Dhoni. In IPL 2022, Jadeja had been the captain of the side for the first few matches but due to the ill-performance of CSK he resigned from the captaincy, and from there on Dhoni again came as the skipper of the side.

Former Indian opener Wasim Jaffer has named a player who could be designated as the Chennai Super Kings captain after Dhoni’s retirement. According to Jaffer, CSK could look upon Ruturaj Gaikwad for the next captain as he is young, knows Chennai in and out, and also leads Maharashtra in the domestic circuit.

While having a conversation at ESPNcricinfo, Jaffer said,” They will stick with Devon Conway (as wicketkeeper) I feel. He is the next in line. MS might look at somebody else as well. I don’t know who that will be. I feel they’ll have their eyes on who is gonna lead CSK after Dhoni. Gaikwad could be that one. Because he is young. He captains Maharashtra as well. They might look to develop him as the next leader and probably give him some responsibility. I hope Shivam Dube, Mukesh Chowdhary, Rajvardhan Hangargekar, and even Subhranshu Senapati – these guys need to have a good season.”

After the release of players, Chennai has 20.45 crores remaining in their purse for mini-auction. With players like Bravo out from the team, the franchise will look to get someone who could fill the space of a West Indian all-rounder.
