Virat Kohli’s Power Game Is Coming Back At The Right Time: Sanjay Manjrekar

Former skipper Virat Kohli got his form back, just before the T20 World Cup 2022. He played an outstanding innings of 63 runs in 48 balls in the third T20I against Australia, giving his fans a glimpse of vintage Kohli. He showed his fantastic performance in the Asia Cup 2022 as well, in which he hit a century against Afghanistan after almost 3 years.

He continued his “power game” from the Asia cup to the home series against Australia. He is establishing a platform for players who are coming after him so that they can easily score. From last few matches, King Kohli has again started holding one end which is giving confidence to other batter playing from another end, and together they are building a good partnership.

After watching his performance, everyone praised him and said he would be a key asset for India in the upcoming world cup. While speaking on the show of Sports’ 18, Sanjay Manjrekar said, “…right from the Asia Cup every match that he (Kohli) got runs, not just the runs, there was some improvement coming. I think the power game is back. He is trusting his power game”.

“There was a time when he was getting runs, but his power game was not coming at his beck and call. That is starting to happen. He is dispatching good balls for big boundaries and sixes. It’s all about confidence. This guy is damn self-confident and drives himself to excellence, but for long-time runs weren’t coming, and his confidence was tender.” Manjrekar added.

Virat Kohli has been out of form for a long time and pointed out his mental health as the reason. Mental health is also an essential aspect of a physical game like; Cricket. Virat was the second highest run-scorer in Asia Cup 2022, had scored 276 runs in five matches with a spectacular average of 92.00 and an amazing strike rate of 147.59. He has two half-centuries and one ton in that tournament.

“During the Asia Cup, slowly and steadily, certain things started to happen, the pull shots came in, and the sixes started going more into the stands than just going over the rope as it was going in the IPL. So, the pieces fall back to frame the perfect picture. Now it’s all about putting all these kinds of performances in the main event,” Sanjay Manjrekar on Kohli’s performance in Asia Cup 2022.
