Everyone was waiting for Virat Kohli’s 71st century for a long time and the precious moment came when the star Indian batter scored his 71st international century against Afghanistan in the Asia Cup 2022.
The team’s regular Rohit Sharma was rested for the match against Afghanistan and thus it made a way for Virat Kohli to open the inning along with KL Rahul.
It was 19th over when Kohli smashed a four and then a six to end the drought of the hundred for which the world cricket fans were waiting. After the match, Virat Kohli had an exclusive talk with Rohit Sharma for BCCI TV.
While interviewing Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma asked how he felt while achieving the milestone of 71ts century of his career. The moment Rohit asked this, Kohli pulled his leg by saying how Rohit Sharma is speaking Hindi so beautifully and purely.
In the video surfacing across the social media platforms, Rohit first asked, “Virat, bahot bahot badhaayi aapko, aapka 71st hundred. Poori India wait kar rahi thi, I am sure aap zyada wait kar rahe the. Aapne jo innings kheli usmein kaafi kuch dekhne ko mila, aapne gaps achhe dhoondhe, shots achhe lagaaye, toh apni innings ke baare mein bataaiye, kaisi shuruaat huyi, aur uske baad kaisi thi feeling (Many congratulations to you on your 71st ton. The entire country was waiting and I am sure even you were waiting. In today’s knock, we saw you were finding the gaps nicely, and playing good strokes. Take us through your knock and also tell us how is the feeling.”
After Rohit’s word, Kohli looked at the camera and said, “Itni shuddh Hindi bola raha hai mere saath pehli baar (For the first time he is talking to me in pure Hindi).”
After scoring this much-awaited century, Kohli credited and thanked his wife Anushka Sharma for standing with him in his tough phase.
Kohli stated,”I know there was a lot of stuff going outside. And I kissed my ring. You see me standing here because one person has put things in perspective for me. That’s Anushka. This hundred is for her and for our little daughter Vamika as well. When you have someone next to you having conversations putting things in perspective, as Anushka has been… when I came back I was not desperate. After six weeks off I was refreshed. I realized how tired I was. Competitiveness doesn’t allow it, but this break allowed me to enjoy the game again.”
