VIDEO: Kapil Dev Marks ‘Mental Health And Depression’ In Cricket Senseless

Nowadays we often listen to cricketers talking about the mental health and trauma behind playing cricket at the highest level. They also state that they need to take a break at a fixed intervals in order to behave positively and calmly while praying on the ground.

Meanwhile, former Indian captain Kapil Dev made a statement about the player’s condition on which hardcore cricket fans are showing their anger. The reason was they felt that the former Indian captain was making fun of mental health.

Kapil’s statement came while having a conversation during the ‘Chat With Champions’ event. There he says that he doesn’t get the words like depression, pressure, and mental health. He subscribed to them as fancy and “American Words.” He further stated that if a player feels pressure in playing IPL, then he should mark himself out from the tournament and not participate in it. He added that now even a student from class 10 or 12 feels pressure which he found senseless. The former all-rounder said, “I hear a lot of times on TV that there’s a lot of pressure on players to play in the IPL. Then I only say one thing, don’t play. If a player has passion, there will be no pressure. I can’t understand these American terms, like depression. I’m a farmer and we play because we enjoy the game, and there can’t be any pressure while enjoying the game.”

He further added,“I remember going to a school where students of class 10 and 12 told him they face a lot of pressure. I said, ‘So also face pressure!’. You people sit in air-conditioned rooms with fees paid by your parents, and teachers cannot beat you up, then where is this pressure coming from? Ask me what pressure is all about. Teachers used to beat us up and then would ask where we had gone. Students need to convert this into pleasure and fun, pressure is a very wrong word.”
