Vaibhav Suryavanshi registers a rare failure

Vaibhav Suryavanshi, India U-19’s batting star, had a day to forget. He was out for a golden duck on Day 4 of the Youth Test against England U-19 in Chelmsford on Wednesday, July 23. The 14-year-old, known for his powerful hitting in the 2025 Indian Premier League for Rajasthan Royals, couldn’t bring that form to this match.

Suryavanshi tried a pull shot off Alex Green’s first ball but missed, sending the ball onto his stumps. It was a tough moment for the young player, whose attacking style didn’t work out this time. Still, he’s shown enough talent to suggest he’ll recover from this.

Suryavanshi’s quick dismissal put India under pressure as they chased 355 on the final day. But captain Ayush Mhatre stepped up, giving India a chance with some aggressive hitting. Mhatre, who just signed with Chennai Super Kings in the IPL, played with control, reaching his fifty in just 25 balls.

By the end of the second session, Mhatre had hit 11 fours and two sixes, bothering the English bowlers and giving hope to what seemed like a difficult chase. He clearly wanted to give his team the best chance in the time left.

While chasing the target was still unlikely, Mhatre’s innings showed great leadership and skill. Whether he could win the game or not, the young player’s fearless play made a strong impression.

As the match neared its end, everyone watched Mhatre to see how close he could get. Chennai Super Kings will also be watching, hoping this knock is just the start for their newest young player.
