One of the biggest match winners in Indian cricket, Anil Kumble, was all praise for India’s spin magician Ravi Ashwin. Ashwin was facilitated by his state for his remarkable achievement of picking up 500 wickets in test cricket.
Ashwin is the second Indian bowler, after Kumble, to achieve this rare milestone. Ashwin had a phenomenal series with the ball against England. The veteran spinner went on to pick up 26 scalps in five matches.
In his 100 test matches, Ashwin now has a tally of 519 wickets, which includes 36 five-wicket hauls.
Anil Kumble was present in the ceremony in which Ashwin was facilitated. The former Indian skipper went all praise for Ashwin, saying that Ashwin’s match-winning approach and consistency have made it possible for him to achieve this feat.
Kumble said, “Ashwin has had as many challenges thrown at him,” Kumble said. “He hasn’t allowed a single one of them to check his progress. He’s been an exceptional match-winner for the country for more than a decade, and the consistency that he has shown is a great hallmark.”
Kumble further added, “His numbers have been outstanding. There is no fun in stacking up the wickets if it doesn’t help the team win. He has an overwhelming correlation with his and India’s success. He’s seldom been satisfied with being very good or even excellent. Each day, he wants to be better than the previous one. That’s the sign of a great learner.”
