Before the commencement of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season, the Kolkata Knight Riders conducted their inaugural practice session at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens. All domestic cricketers, alongside Rinku Singh and Manish Pandey, participated in the practice session on Friday, March 14th.
Amidst some uncertainty and speculation surrounding captain Shreyas Iyer’s availability for the upcoming season, sources from the KKR team management have confirmed that Shreyas is set to arrive in Kolkata on Saturday. After his arrival, he will also join the team’s practice session.
KKR remains optimistic about Shreyas’s potential inclusion in the team. Their initial practice session commenced with a customary puja ritual performed in front of the wicket, as per tradition. Shreyas recently represented Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy final against Vidarbha at the Wankhede Stadium.
As per Manish Pandey, who interacted with the media after KKR’s practice, said, “We are hoping after getting clearance from NCA, which I think he did, he will come back and join the squad ASAP. We are happy to have him.”
Pandey also added, “It will be a great experience to play under Shreyas. We are looking forward to it.”
Manish Pandey also talked about Gautam Gambhir’s comeback to the franchise and said, “To start with him, I came back to KKR and it feels good. Gauti Bhai, as a mentor, is feeling great as we have won the IPL before under his captaincy. Some of the older faces are still there. And we hope to come back this season.”
