The ongoing season of the WPL has had phenomenal success so far. The competition between all five teams has become more intense with each passing day in the tournament.
However, WPL team UP Warriors’s are dealt a huge blow as their most expensive player of the tournament, Vrinda Dinesh, has been ruled out of the entire tournament due to injury. Vrinda Dinesh suffered a shoulder injury in UP’s clash with the Mumbai Indians. The franchise has named Uma Chetri as her replacement.
In an official statement from WPL, information on both injuries and replacements was provided. It said,UP Warriorz’s Vrinda Dinesh is ruled out of the remainder of the TATA Women’s Premier League after suffering a shoulder injury during Match 6 (February 28) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru, against the Mumbai Indians.”
It further stated, “The UP Warriors have signed wicketkeeper batter Uma Chetry as a replacement at her reserve price of INR 10 lakhs. Uma recently played for India A against England A and was also a part of the victorious India A Emerging squad that won the ACC Emerging Women’s Asia Cup 2023.”
Vrinda Dinesh was one of the most expensive picks of Up Warriors’s in the WPL auction, as she was signed for a whopping 1.3 crore.
She was the second-most expensive player of the entire auction, as apart from her, only Kashvee Gautam and Annabell Sutherland were purchased for 2 crores.
