Unveiling the Essence of Afghanistan Cricket’s 15th Anniversary through Mohammad Nabi

Mohammad Nabi flew back in time to Afghanistan’s first international match on April 19, 2009. This was the first instance when Afghanistan played on top level against Scotland.

Afghanistan was led by Navroz Mangal, who won the match by 89 runs. It was Mohammad Nabi who was awarded the player of the match award for his heroics, with the bat scoring 58 of just 64 deliveries, which included three sixes and three fours. After electing to bat first, Afganistan scored 295/8 and bowled out Scotland 206.

On their 15th anniversary, Mohammad Nabi dropped an emotional note, remembering the journey of Afghanistan cricket. Nabi is currently playing for the Mumbai Indians in the ongoing IPL season.

Mohammad Nabi wrote, “Fifteen years ago, we etched history with our first international cricket match, a moment brimming with emotion and pride for all of us. Holding the title of best player of the match was the most valuable player of the match, which fills me with everlasting pride.

“Our journey stands as a testament to the perseverance and passion of our senior players, whose commitment has paved the way for the success we’ve achieved.
Yet, this journey is far from over. It’s a journey fuelled by a relentless determination to excel, to reach new heights, and to make Afghanistan a force to be reckoned with in the cricket world.

Nabi further wrote, “dream of the day when Afghanistan commands the cricket world stage with authority and grace. With the unwavering support of our fellow countrymen, this dream is within reach. To every individual who has stood by us, cheered for us, and believed in us, I dedicate this journey.
Long live Afghanistan.”

Afghanistan also impressed everyone with their game in the 2023 World Cup. Under the captaincy of Hashmatullah Shahidi, Afganistan went on to defeat teams like Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and England.
