A major breaking update is emerging regarding Hardik Pandya’s trade. The biggest surprise is that the team now tipped to win the race was not among the early favourites.

As per reports, Hardik Pandya is set to join Punjab Kings, while Arshdeep Singh and Vishnu Vinod are set to move to Mumbai Indians. The blockbuster deal is almost done, with official confirmation still awaited.

With the November 17 retention deadline approaching, Punjab have reportedly agreed to Mumbai’s demands. Rajasthan Royals, Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders were considered strong contenders, but Punjab now appear set to move ahead of them.

Hardik Pandya to Punjab Kings: What Changed the Race?

The biggest reason behind Punjab’s progress is the combination of players they are reportedly offering Mumbai.

Other interested franchises were not meeting Mumbai’s demands. Punjab, however, have agreed to offer Arshdeep Singh and Vishnu Vinod, giving Mumbai an established Indian fast bowler and an Indian wicketkeeper-batter.

That explains why Punjab’s late entry has become significant. Mumbai would receive players who address specific requirements in their squad, making this proposal attractive.

Arshdeep is Punjab’s leading Indian pacer and a key member of India’s T20I attack. Vishnu brings powerful hitting along with wicketkeeping, giving Mumbai two different skills in one player.

Vishnu Vinod Addresses Mumbai’s Wicketkeeping Requirement

An Indian wicketkeeper has reportedly been one of Mumbai’s priorities in the trade discussions.

Their interest in Angkrish Raghuvanshi became a sticking point in talks involving Kolkata Knight Riders, with KKR reluctant to release the youngster. Punjab’s willingness to include Vishnu Vinod has helped their proposal move forward.

Vishnu is an attacking T20 batter who has shown his ability to change games in domestic cricket. He has not received enough opportunities to establish himself at IPL level, but his hitting and wicketkeeping make him a useful option.

Mumbai would also have the option of using him in a finishing role after Hardik’s departure. His domestic performances offer a reason to consider him for that responsibility, although delivering consistently in the IPL would be his next challenge.

Arshdeep Singh Set to Partner Jasprit Bumrah

The biggest attraction for Mumbai would be bringing Arshdeep Singh into the same attack as Jasprit Bumrah.

India’s leading T20I wicket-taker offers left-arm variety and the ability to bowl difficult overs. A partnership with Bumrah would give Mumbai two high-quality Indian options at the death, addressing a major area of concern.

Arshdeep’s recent form strengthens the case for signing him. He stood out during the New Zealand T20I series when several other Indian bowlers struggled, showing his value even when conditions were difficult for the attack.

With Bumrah and Arshdeep handling key responsibilities, Mumbai would have greater freedom in their overseas selections. They would be less dependent on using an overseas slot for a specialist fast bowler and could strengthen another department instead.

What Would This Mean for Trent Boult?

Reports have also suggested that Mumbai are considering releasing Trent Boult. Bringing in Arshdeep would give them an established left-arm replacement and make that change easier to manage.

The combination of Arshdeep and Vishnu therefore addresses several needs: Indian pace quality, death bowling, wicketkeeping and an additional attacking batter.

Vishnu would offer an option for the finishing role, while Arshdeep would strengthen the bowling alongside Bumrah. That is why Punjab’s reported offer appears to have moved ahead of the alternatives Mumbai were exploring.

Deal Almost Done, Official Announcement Awaited

Punjab are now being tipped to complete the move, but a late twist cannot be ruled out before the agreement is finalised. Chennai or Kolkata could still return with an improved offer.

For now, the deal is reportedly almost done: Hardik Pandya is set for Punjab Kings, with Arshdeep Singh and Vishnu Vinod heading to Mumbai Indians in exchange. The official announcement is awaited.
