Daniel Christian, the Australian all-rounder who plays for Sydney Sixers in Big Bash League(BBL) has announced his retirement from all forms of cricket after the current Big Bash League (BBL) season. Before hanging up his boots, the 39-year-old wants to win the BBL title with the Sixers.
Christian played franchise cricket all over the world after making his debut in the T20 format in 2006. The veteran cricketer has played for both the Melbourne Renegades and Sixers in the Big Bash League. In 45 games since joining the Sydney-based team in 2020, he has claimed 26 wickets to his name.
Christian, who played in 23 T20Is and 20 ODIs for Australia, has also scored 609 runs with the Sixers at a strike rate of 144.31.
He stated to have built several memories that will endure forever. He shared this message on his official Twitter account, where he said, “Yesterday at training, I told my Sydney Sixers teammates that I’ll be retiring from playing at the end of the BBL season. Sydney smash tonight, followed by our Hurricanes, and then the finals. Hopefully, we can go all the way again this season, but regardless, it’s been a great run. I’ve achieved things and made some memories that I could have only dreamt of as a kid.”
“What I didn’t expect to learn as a kid though, is how many people I was going to come in contact with that have had an influence on my career and ended up becoming lifelong friends. I’m looking forward to now having the time to catch up with you all and not having to use the excuse “Sorry, I’ve got cricket”. I’ll reserve my thank yous for the last time (whenever that may be), but in the meantime, go the Sixers.”
The all-rounder has also participated in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Delhi Daredevils, and the now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiants.
