In the third match of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) league, Gujarat Giants (GG) clashed with UP Warriors (UPW). UP Warriors won a thrilling three-wicket at DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai. Australian batter Grace Harris played an important role in the victory of UP Warriors. Grace Harris scored 59 off 26 balls, in which seven fours and three sixes were included, and this blazing knock of Harris snatched the victory from Gujarat Giants’ jaw.
UP Warriors had to score 63 runs in the last five overs to win; in such a situation, their victory seemed difficult. But Grace Harris overturned the lost game with a stormy knock. Sophie Ecclestone supported Harris well, and there was an unbeaten 70-run match-winning partnership for the eighth wicket. Apart from Harris, Indian veteran batter Kiran Navagire also played a brilliant inning of 53 runs. Kim Garth took the maximum five wickets from Gujarat Giants.
UP Warriors had to score 19 runs in the last over to win. Gujarat’s stand-in captain Sneh Rana hands over the ball to Annabel Sutherland. But her decision wasn’t good, and the Gujarat team could not defend the target. Sutherland also bowled two wides in the final over, making UP’s work easier. This is the second consecutive defeat of the Gujarat Giants. Earlier, he was defeated by Mumbai Indians by 143 runs in the first match.
Batting first, Gujarat scored 169 runs in 20 overs, losing five wickets. Opener S Meghna was dismissed for 24 runs, and Sophia Dunkley for 13 runs. Other batters like Sutherland (8) and Sushma Verma (9) could not do anything special. Harleen got out after scoring 46 runs in 32 balls with the help of seven fours. Deepti and Sophia Ecclestone took two wickets each for UP, while Sarwani got one wicket.
