“The selectors will…”Jay Shah gives a massive statement regarding the new skipper of T 20 format after Rohit Sharma’s retirement

BCCI secretary Jay Shah talked about the possibility of Hardik Pandya becoming the permanent captain of the Indian team instead of Rohit Sharma. On Saturday, Rohit decided to stop playing T20 cricket after India won the T20 World Cup in the Caribbean and the United States of America (USA). Hardik would only lead the team when Rohit was not there.

Since Rohit will no longer be part of the T20 team, the BCCI needs to choose a new permanent captain for T20 matches. Although Hardik is being considered for the role, Jay Shah mentioned that the new captain will be chosen after talking with the selectors.

“The selectors will choose the captain, and we’ll let everyone know after talking with them. You mentioned Hardik, there were many doubts about his performance, but we and the selectors believed in him, and he showed he’s capable,” Jay Shah stated.

Following their success in the T20 World Cup, India will face Zimbabwe in a 5-game T20 series starting on July 6 at the Harare Sports Club. With some important players not participating, Shubman Gill will be the leader for this series. Gill, along with Rinku Singh, Avesh Khan, and Khaleel Ahmed, was part of the backup team for the World Cup.

Following the trip to Zimbabwe, India is scheduled to visit Sri Lanka this month for a series of three T20 matches. The team leader for this series has not yet been chosen.

Regarding Hardik, he has led India in 16 T20 matches, winning 10 of them. He has also been the captain for 3 one-day internationals. In 2022, Hardik was successful as the captain of the Gujarat Titans, guiding them to their first IPL championship.
