Team India’s middle-order batter, Shreyas Iyer, has been out of action since he was dropped from India’s squad after the first two test matches because of a back injury.
However, NCA’s latest statement on the fitness of Shreyas Iyer has started to raise questions. The star batter made himself unavailable for Mumbai’s Ranji team selection in spite of their all-important quarterfinal clash against Baroda.
Shreyas Citid back pain as the reason for his unavailability, however, as per the latest report, NCA’s head of sports science and medicine Nitin Patel declared Shreyas Iyer fit.
Nitin Patel wrote an email in which he gave details about the fitness of Shreyas Iyer, saying that “Shreyas Iyer was fit and available for selection as per the handover report of the Indian team after the 2nd Test match against England. There are currently no fresh injuries reported as well after his departure from Team India.”
Meanwhile, BCCI secretary Jay Shah has already made it clear that all the centrally contracted players, if they are not selected for India tours, must play the domestic tournament unless there is a significant reason for their absence.
Apart from Shreyas Iyer, team India’s star wicketkeeper, Batsman, Ishan Kishan also did not feature in the line-up for Jharkhand, in spite of team India’s head coach, Rahul Dravid, saying that Ishan Kishan needs to play some sort of cricket to make himself eligible for selection.
It will be interesting to see what action BCCI will take on players as they are skipping first-class cricket and are focusing on playing in the T-20 leagues.
